Investment Category

Have at least 3 million Baht of investment in any of the following:

  • A Thai Limited or Public company,
  • Thai state-issued Security Corporation,
  • Thai State Enterprise’s Security Corporation, or,
  • The Thai stock market.

Business Category

For at least one year, you must have been an executive officer and a signatory of a Thai-registered business with a capital of at least 10 million Baht. Additionally, and you must have earned at least 50,000 Baht per month for two years prior to filing the application. This work must be relevant to the Thai economy.

Employment Category

Have earned at least 80,000 Baht per month for two years in a row or submitted a tax return for an annual income of 100,000 Baht or more for two years in a row, have held a work permit for at least three years in a row, and have worked at your current employer for at least one year.

Humanity Category

Marry a Thai national or had a Thai citizen as a parent or kid.

Expert Category

Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher education and work in a position that needs him/her to spend at least three years in Thailand.

On a case-by-case basis, other circumstances and backgrounds will be considered.

The list of documents you’ll need for your application is on the basis of the category and circumstances in which you’re applying.

You must first contact the immigration office where you intend to apply and inquire about the documentation required. You have to produce the following documents:

  • The original and a copy of your passport, including copies of all relevant pages.
  • The original and a copy of your residence’s House Registration Book Tabien Baan.
  • 12 passport sized photos taken within 6 months of your application (4 x 6 cm).
  • All fees paid in cash.

How to Apply

You have to submit your Thai Permanent Residence Visa application to a Royal Thai Immigration Office. Note that, permanent residency in Thailand is subject to an annual limit, with a maximum of 100 people per nation given each year.

The Royal Thai Embassy accepts applications for PR Visa between October through the end of each year.

After the acceptance of your application, you will receive a blue residency book. You must register your place of residence in Thailand at the local Amphur after receiving this book for your home card.

You can then apply for an alien book (red book) at the local police station once you have received your residence certificate. Your alien book will serve as a substitute for your Thai national ID card, that needs renewal every year.

Your Thai Permanent Residence Visa does not expire except for revocation. But it may be revoked if you leave Thailand and return without a re-entry permit.

You can apply to become a Thai naturalized citizen after ten years on a Thai Permanent Residence Visa.

Interview and Tests for Permanent Residence

An immigration officer at a Thai Immigration Office will interview you. This is a vital part of your application for a Thai Permanent Residence Visa. You’ll have to clarify them about your documents, your background and religious beliefs. All of your responses will be recorded, and following the interview, you will be requested to sign the forms.

Re-Entry Permit

A re-entry permit can be obtained at a Thai Immigration Office or an International Airport in Thailand. A single re-entry permit costs 1,000 Baht, while a multiple re-entry permit costs 3,800 Baht.

If you’re reentering Thailand, make a note of your re-entry permit number on your immigration arrival form so that your visa can be reactivated.
