Then, you must get a visa from the Royal Thai Embassy, albeit, nationals of some countries do not require one if they have met the visa exemption requisites as follows;

Now that you know who all need to apply for a visa, it boils down to the fact that a foreigner must have a valid passport or a travel document, which is recognized by the Royal Thai Government and comply with the conditions laid in the Immigration Act of Thailand.
Additionally, the applicant must be outside Thailand at the time of application and the type of visa will be provided based on the purpose of visit. For your information, the visa validity period is different from the period of stay. In case you don’t know already, the visa validity is the time during which a visa is used to enter the country. Generally, the visa validity is for 3 months. Well, exceptions are there as in some cases it may be issued for a validity of 6 months, or even 3 years.
As for the period of stay, it is granted by the immigration officer upon arriving and in relation to the type of visa granted. For instance, a transit visa is not exceeding 30 days, and a tourist visa is not exceeding 60 days.
