Thailand's ties with European Union

Therefore, the European Union is looking forward to resuming political contacts with Thailand, as mentioned by its foreign affairs council. This happened after Thailand’s PM announced a general election to be held in November 2018. However, the government is yet to get away with a political ban, which would allow all the political parties to campaign.

You may know that the EU is Thailand’s trade partner after Japan and China. Also, it is the third largest trading partner in the ASEAN. In 2015, Thailand has exported goods €19.6 billion, according to the European Commission.

The fact that the council has decided to resume all the political contracts at every levels to facilitate dialogues on the issues arising on mutual importance, which includes human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Even though, the EU said in 2014 that it would put on hold signing the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with Thailand, aimed at a closer economic and polities ties, it is a good thing that they have now cleared their issues and thus reconsidering their relations with Thailand.
