Secretary-general Suphat Chamtong expresses the need to prepare courses, which respond to the growth of the targeted industries in the Eastern Economic Corridor. The Thai government has keyed out ten industries as the primary growth drivers for the country, which includes;
- Aviation and Logistics,
- Digital Industry,
- Medical Hub,
- Food for the Future,
- Agriculture and Biotechnology,
- Next-Gen Automotive,
- Smart Electronics,
- Robotics,
- Medical and Wellness Tourism,
- Biofuels and Biochemicals,
He further mentioned that the educational sector in Thailand must move in line with the country’s policies and goals. To this, he said that CMKL University is a perfect instance of how higher-education institutes can take up the initiative to support Thailand’s move. In fact, this university is accepting an application to give training to people for masters and doctorates in engineering.
Mr. Suphat believes that CMKL will produce 50 world-class innovators, 80 doctoral graduates, and 200 master’s graduates over the next decades. He further added that the government has been negotiating to cooperate with many foreign universities to set up a number of good universities in Thailand to produce a capable workforce that can match the new engines of development. Presently they are in talking terms with Switzerland’s Les Roches Global Education for a leisure and hospitality management programme, Britain’s University of Portsmouth for robotics and aviation programme, and Tokyo University for an aerospace engineering programme.
Meanwhile, Thammasat University rector Associate Professor sought a meeting with Uttama Savanayana, Industry Ministry, to plan the establishment of the first higher-educational facility in the Eastern Economic Corridor.
Gasinee (Thammasat University rector Associate Professor) said that she had planned to develop their Pattaya campus in Chon Buri while establishing it as a medical hub too. This campus is expected to operate specialized medical facilities plus include a research center for medical innovations, which should be pursued in collaboration with the private sector.
Additionally, the location has already been chosen, which is about 40kms from the U-tapao airport, 27km from Laem Chabang Port, and 121km from Suvarnabhumi.
Gasinee told that Thammasat’s campus in Pattaya will also host the Innovation Hub. It would feature 10 buildings that include a co-working space, business co-working space, and a smart space for active learning.
Acting quick to the plan, Thammasat has signed agreements for cooperation with so many organizations to execute the plan to develop the campus in an impactful way. Its partners include MAIC Motor-CP, Hong Kong Cyber Port, MAIC Motor-CP, and the Federation of Thai Industries.
