On the Pocket-Friendly Side: Living in Bangkok
Living in Bangkok or anywhere in the world apparently comes down to two things; 1) your fixed monthly expenses, and 2) your lifestyle that you add to the top of your necessary expense. Though a lot of people say that living in main cities of Thailand can give you a pocket crunch with a proper planning and research you can still survive for $285.06 per month. Let me help you make a monthly budget.
Let’s start with accommodation. Honestly speaking, it is better to rent a budgeted apartment that is clean and is located in a safe and secured neighborhood. Studio apartments are quite popular. You can even share your space with anyone as that way it will be friendlier on your pocket. Find a place from where the food market will be closer. I used to stay in an apartment from where the market was just 5 minutes away. Of course, you can always survive on the street food. You might get a studio apartment at $108 (3300 THB), internet at $13.10 (400 THB), water supply at $2.29 (90 THB) and electricity at $6.88 (210 THB, depending on your consumption though). So, in total that comes to around $131.36 (4000 THB) and when split by two it will come to $65.53 each.
It is okay if you don’t find an apartment in the city center, you can always walk at least for 10 to 15 minutes. It will be good for your fitness as well. Isn’t it? For transportation, you can always rely on the buses. Minimum is 6.50 THB, whereas maximum it can reach till 20 THB. See, in order to live comfortably within a given budget, you must figure out what is a priority.
As for food like most Thais do, they survive on street foods that are extremely delicious and friendly on your pocket. But that may not be good for you every day as your digestive system may not be habituated with such toll. Home-cooked foods are preferable in that case. For breakfast, you can munch oatmeal and fruits. That is quite filling, right. However, food in Bangkok may cost you somewhere around $10.
